Join the Patrol
New members are always welcome!
Volunteering for an organization such as the National Ski Patrol can be a rewarding and exciting experience. Through the training you will gain self confidence, knowledge, and important skills that will help you while on and off the hill. Responding to an emergency situation isn't something most of you plan on doing, but with the training and experience you will receive, you will be ready.
How You Can Join
You can become a candidate today. To be certified by the National Ski Patrol as a patroller, you Must:
- Complete the NSP's course in Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC), an intensive outdoor-oriented first-aid course: over 80 hours of classes and fieldwork, followed by a practical test in the snow.
- Complete CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED
After successfully completing an intensive "Outdoor Emergency Care" course (OEC), you will be eligible for first aid station assignments. Advanced skiers will be further trained in skiing and toboggan handling.
Once you're a member of the patrol, you'll have the following annual responsibilities:
- Re-certify your skills in CPR.
- Complete a one-day first-aid refresher.
- Take part in a one-day on-the-hill refresher.
- Serve 10 patrol duty days
