Reconstruction On The RS Marginal Pushing Onwards

Rock Springs (WYDOT) – Reopening the Sunset Drive portion of the Dewar Drive/Gateway Boulevard intersection is still on the schedule for Oct. 10 according to the contractor.

The contractor poured concrete for the curb and gutter as well as a 24 foot wide ribbon of concrete roadway along Sunset Drive on Oct. 2 and plans to pour the double gutter and a 24 foot wide ribbon of concrete roadway along Dewar Drive on Oct. 3.

According to the schedule, the contractor intends to be finished paving Dewar Drive on Nov. 1 and finished paving Interstate 80 in mid October. David Wick, project supervisor for Upper Plains Contracting, Inc. said, “We’re confident we’ll make the Nov. 30 contract completion date.”

Other activities to take place during the coming week will include dirt work and pouring curb and gutter along Swanson Drive, placement of new high tower luminaries at the Dewar Drive Interchange, tying in the westbound on ramp to Dewar Drive and switching traffic to the new ramp. Paving is also expected to begin on the Pilot Butte crossroads during the week of Oct. 6. Wick advised that motorists might encounter traffic shifts near the ramp areas as well as delays and flaggers at Swanson Drive.

Looking forward into the schedule, the asphalt contractor anticipates paving Swanson Drive during the week of Oct. 13. The normal Thursday public meeting will take place on Oct. 9 so the public and business owners may provide feedback to the contractor and the Wyoming Department of Transportation with problems encountered with the closure on Sunset Drive. The meetings take place on Thursdays at 2 p.m. at the WYDOT headquarters at 3200 Elk Street, in the upstairs conference room, Room 226.

Motorists are advised to obey posted speed limits, devote their full attention to the flaggers and changes in traffic patterns, traffic control devices, signing, and lane markings to get through the construction area safely. They should also increase their usual following distance, move into the correct lane well in-advance, restrict cell phone usage or other distractions, and be aware of their surroundings.
