Interior Design for the Home Begins Oct 16

Powell -- Interior designer Lucille Oliver will offer a noncredit enrichment class about interior design for the home. Enrollees will be encouraged to discover their unique home decorating style during this 2-part class which meets 6:30 – 8 p.m., Thursdays, Oct. 16 and 23 in Northwest College’s Fagerberg Building, Room 20. Course fee is $10.

Oliver will teach the ‘contrast in harmony’ design technique which means mixing styles and colors, new and old pieces, and traditional with modern. This course also covers furniture arranging, colors, lines and shapes.

Free Oct. 16 FAA Safety Program: Winter Aviation

A free general aviation safety and winter flying seminar for pilots and flying enthusiasts will be held 6:30 – 9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 16 in Northwest College’s Fagerberg Building, Room 70. Among other things, Anthony Cirincione, from the Federal Aviation Administration, will educate pilots about compensating for altimeters that give dangerously misleading readings in cold temperatures. Anyone age 13 and up with an interest in aviation is welcome to attend.

Preregister by Oct. 16 for Environmental Education Workshop

Nationally recognized conservation and environmental education programs, Project Learning Tree and Project WILD, will be presented in Powell from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25 in Room 120 of Northwest College’s Science and Math Building. Preregistration is required by Oct. 16.

Instructors Marynell Oechsner and Bobbie Holder will teach participants how to plan creative, hands-on activities for children and students ages pre-kindergarten through grade 8. Teachers, club leaders, teacher’s aids, home school parents, and others who provide educational instruction to children are encouraged to attend.

All participants will receive copies of the Project Learning Tree, Project WILD, and Project WILD Aquatic guides, which contain activities on topics such as: climate, government, health and nutrition, land use, habitats, energy, history, ecosystems, and more. Oechsner and Holder will teach educators how to use the guides to create fun and educational activities that develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills, as well as increasing appreciation and understanding of our environment.

Course fee is $15 (which includes a $5 supply fee). Participants should bring a sack lunch to class.
