Lummis Responds to Gordon's Latest Attack Debunking
his Misrepresentations of Her Record
Cheyenne (Lummis for Congress) – Former State Treasurer and Wyoming legislator Cynthia Lummis responded to primary opponent Mark Gordon's latest attacks on her, describing them as "misrepresentations conjured up by a dying campaign."
"Mr. Gordon, having never served in elective office, finds himself with no choice but to contrive false impressions intended to distract Republican voters' concerns about his more than seventeen year support of Democrat candidates and causes," Lummis said.
"I find Mr. Gordon's attack on my conservative record hypocritical, at best. If Mr. Gordon is truly concerned about keeping taxes low, why did he give $2,000 to John Kerry in 2004? If he is truly concerned about the growth of government and conservative principles, why did he give money to the Democratic National Committee and the opponents of both Craig Thomas and Mike Enzi? If he is truly concerned about the Democratic control of Congress, why did he give money to Gary Trauner?"
Lummis stated that examples of Gordon's misrepresentations include his allegation that in a legislative vote cast in 1981, she did not support a veterans' property tax exemption. That vote turns out to have been a preliminary one, while on the final vote for the bill to become law Lummis, in fact, voted in favor of the bill, supporting the veterans' tax exemption. "Such misleading assertions are the stuff of falsehood and the standard fare of a campaign without substance," said Lummis.
Further, Lummis noted that "Mr. Gordon, was not present when the State's finances were much less rich than they are today." "During the 1980's Wyoming faced a struggle to live within its then limited means. Mr. Gordon is unfamiliar with such circumstances, having had no experience in balancing government budgets during lean times."
"I am proud of my consistent record of fiscal conservatism and no amount of fabrication by a political opponent changes that record."
"Mr. Gordon's campaign is in trouble and his swinging so wildly only emphasizes that fact."
